I just joined. Why? Because I'm a Ford guy and I bought my first Chevy--a '75 vette convertible that needs mucho work. I don't know beans about vettes, but I know that its every American male's dream to own a vette (it takes some of us 51 yrs). Anyway, any of you veterans know how I can find out what the original color of this car was (inside and out), any hidden codes in the VIN? This is a great forum!
Welcome not only to the Forum but to the world of GM,
I think you'll find info on how to tackle any job from the members here.
I think my tag is inside the drivers side door on the front post on my 78.
We will want to see pics when you can, Good, Bad, or Ugly we like pics
....any of you veterans know how I can find out what the original color of this car was (inside and out)...
Trim tag on the driver's door post lists codes for the original exterior color, original interior trim color, and the date the car was assembled (time/build date, upper right corner.)
...any hidden codes in the VIN?
Hidden codes? No, but the VIN will contain a code for the body type, the original engine installed, and the consecutive unit number. You will find two stamps on the pad at the front of the right head. Jot down both. One will identify the engine and the date it was assembled. The second will contain a derivative of the VIN of the car the engine was originally installed in.
...This is a great forum!
Yep. It is.
Welcome.
If the car does not have an owner's manual, order a reproduction and order the assembly instruction manual (AIM) for /75 at the same time. Read through both when they arrive.
Welcome. The trim tag will tell you the exterior color, interior color, and whether the car was built with a standard or custom interior. It won't however tell you what color top the car was built with.
Wow, thanks for all the info; in addition, the fantastic hospitality! I updated the profile, but I don't have a digital camera for a photo (I'm new at these forums, too). Believe me, its sorry looking! I really don't know where to start--I guess with the assembly and owner's manuals.
Welcome to the Forum and congrats on your new purchase. The more you restore it, the more you will love it and when you can drive it the fun will just be beginning!
