The power antenna on my 78 sometimes blows a fuse when the antenna is coming down. I'm thinking this is because the antenna motor is so close to the muffler and heating it up. It doesn't always blow a fuse, even after running for a period of time. Assuming it's blowing because of the antenna motor heating up, does anyone know if those heat shields that go around the antenna motor actually work?
I doubt its from the heat. The live wire for the down is different then the wire for the up. I suspect you have a break in the down wire. Its probably rattling around and grounding out on occation. See if you can find a split in it.
Look up from underneath and see if any of the wires are damaged. No damage there go to the inside. If its anything like mine there should be a plug under the carpet in the rear compartment on the driverside or it could be behind the speaker. See if you can get at it....move it around...recreate the problem. The wires run from that plug to a relay either in the passengerside storage compartment or under the consol. Thats assuming your antenna is stock. The relay sometimes comes loss and grounds out. From there the wires run to your radio.
