Last night I finished taking out the rest of the interior on my 82 project vette and now it is time to start the body work. At first I thought that the body was actually cracking in places but I have now found out that it is just the paint and it chips away easy in the cracked areas.
I originally wanted to fix the areas of concern and then do a lite sand and respray but after seeing the paint chip away I am going to have to take the whole car down to the fiberglass. It looks like the person that repainted the car really did not do it right.
The question is - what is the best way to remove the paint? I saw a chemical product in a vette catalog that they say will not harm the fiberglass - will this work or will I need to sand it down?
I took 3 layers of paint off mine with the razor blade method and then finished it off by sanding it. Don't be afraid of the blade , if you do it right it comes off pretty easy and fast , pus you don't have the mess with strippers or have to worry about stripper residue coming back to haunt you in your new paint job down the road.
