Headlight Switch

The black **** on my headlight switch popped off of the metal rod. I've looked in the catalogs and there are quite a few pieces that are a part of the headlight switch. What do I need to fix this?

You need a new headlight ****. The **** and the rod are sold together as 1 piece. Dr Rebuild 2486201 "69-71 switch rod and ****". 69-71 is chrome looking, 72-76 is black with a headlight symbol. Either will work if you want to change for some reason.

Will I need to remove the dash to replace this? Or is it possible to fix with the dash in place?

There is a button on the headlight switch that you have to press to get the old one out.You will have to lower the dash on that side.Lower the steering colomn and remove all the screws holding the dash pad on.When I do it I remove "all" the dash screws on both sides so the upper dash has plenty of flex.You should be able to pull the corner of dash with the switch down far enough to get in and push the button.Just dont force things too much.

Why not try gluing the **** back on to the rod?

They are supposed to be one piece, anyway.

Did it on mine and it worked.
