This is on the driver side door (have the same thing on the passenger side). What is that rusty thing ?
I ordered a set of four 'anti rattle pads' for the windows but these don't look like this....
Hey MB/RB...It is the inner, rigid part of the weatherstripping that actually screws to the door. It is buried deep in fresh stripping. The stripping is screwed to the door on each end, by the hinge and by the latch. The rest is attached with glue. When you stripped off the old rubber the metal innards stayed behind. Take it off and stash it until you can test fit some new stripping and confirm you don't need it, then chuck it. The rattle pads attach to the guides that are roughly a third of the way in on each end, contacting the window from the inside. Vendor sites should give diagrams...
Thanks, that's it. I just opened the box with the new weatherstripping and confirmed it has the metal piece inside the rubber. I went in the garage and took the rusted piece off, it had some rubber still attached to it, the rest of the old weatherstripping is gone.
Until you mentioned it I didn't even notice the two phillips head screws .......
