Battery Tender
Okay, my wife is going to get me a battery tender for the vette. I have been out to start it on more than one occasion this last year and had a weak battery and it would not start. So my question to you is, if you have a Battery Tender, which model do you have and are you happy with it. Be sure to tell me which model and brand you have.
I have a Battery Tender Plus. I have the vette battery on the workbench in my garage while the car is in storage. I screw charging posts in the side and hook up the battery tender about once every 3-4 weeks. It's on the same schedule as my tractor (battery still in tractor) if there isn't sufficient snow to have run it.
Don't remember the name but Mid-America sells them. $49 small green one does a good job. I didn't install it in the car I just use it in the winter months & lay it on the rear carpet.
I have a 1.5 amp made by Shumacher, it's about 10 years old and I picked it up on a whim at the local everything store for 24.99. Still works. Has LED indicators to let you know if it's charging (yellow) or okay (green). I leave the battery in the car and leave the charger on all winter. This Delco battery is 6 years old.
i've got the battery tender jr, 2 of em, one for the bike & one for the vette. i just attached the plug in leads on the battery & when either is not in use i just plug into the leads & turn on the battery tender. in the winter i just leave the battery in the Bike & vette while connected to the battery tender.
oh yeah, very happy w/it, the best thing to do for yer battery's

I have a Battery Tender but wanted a "smart" trickle charger microprocessor technology so it knows when the charge is complete or full and turns its self off. I picked up the Battery Extender by Autometer.
I believe the Battery Tender Plus has same "smart" microprocessor technology but that's what you want to get...ability to detect "full charge" and turn itself off.
The best choice in "trickle" or "maintainer" chargers are the "smart
battery charger" variety which typically charge 1.5-2.0 amps "wide open"
but then, "ramp down" to 200-400 milliamps once the charger senses the
battery is approaching full charge. All of these smart chargers are
"smart" via a microprocessor which monitors battery voltage and controls
charger output appropriately.

DELTRAN
mine is a mini trickle one fits in the palm of your hand, i plug it in after ever use, leave it hanging from the ceiling in the garage & leave the gator clips on the battery, just pull in & plug it in, never a weak start, & no over charges !! ZIXXX PACKER

I use the Deltran Battery Tender model# 021-0123. This is the time of year when neither the Harley nor the Corvette get used very often and it's nice to know they're ready to go for those few good weather weekends we sometimes have here in the Pacific Northwest.
I don't completely understand the electronics, but for the bike it's just a short overnight thing and only a day or so for the Corvette. Good for peace of mind.
I've had one mounted onboard on the frame rail behind the fuel tank for years. I think it was from Sears. I wanted the smallest one I could find, it's about the size of a pack of smokes. I leave it pluged in 24-7....works great
Use the Battery Tender Jr .... works just fine for vette, Sportster, and boat.
It senses voltage and maintains full charge without overcharging.
I used it to bring the boat battery back from full discharge.
It did the job, but took over a full day to fully charge it.
IMO - the Jr model is fine for most all applications.

I have 4 Schumacher Tenders for various toys I bought at Walmart (around $15 each) which have worked flawlessly for a couple of years.

I was looking at the pics and it looks like the Battery Tender Plus comes with alligator clips and a set of ring terminals. If this is true I can use the ring terminals on the motorcycle and the alligators on the vette.
Anyone know if BT Plus comes with both sets of ends?
