Default Transporting a Corvette-suggestions??

I'm arranging a transport from CAL to Illinois and Ive run a quote request on the 'Net... I received a list of quotes, most around the same $ ballpark. Im not seeing a big reason to choose one over another. Just the cheapest doesnt make sense, but I do not see terms like no deposit, insurance, etc, being significantly different from one carrier to another.

I havent transported in a couple years, and I know threads like this have been used before; but, I find this to be an issue where current experiences are the most important. Has anyone used a carrier, preferably moving a Corvette lately, that you would suggest or eliminate??

I used Intercity back in 2003 to transport a non running, non steering, no motor or transmission 1982 from Grapevine Texas to the Sullivan County area of N.Y.S. About 100 miles NW of N.Y.C. They charged me
$1,440.00 door to door, the move took 3 days. They called me as to inform me of their progress and location,,, I was satisfied. This was in an enclosed tractor trailer that to me was the state of the art way to haul cars coast to coast. Last year I needed a 1995 Caprice 9C1 moved from Idaho (Boise) to me here in N.Y. that car was an operable car in every sense of the word, Intercity quoted me a price that I could not afford or justify considering the $$$ I actually paid for the car, (should have flew out and driven it back home) so I used a company that moved it for $900 bucks and I didnt know when it was picked up nor when it was to be delivered until 1/2 hour before it actually showed up, that was on a goose-neck trailer (open) pulled by a dually diesel Dodge pick up, the car made it here in one piece and in good shape, that was through a broker , after calling other places I asked whoever I spoke to and thats what they told me,,, they were a clearing house for many transporters. I guess I was satisfied with that move also, so, it seems that you pay your money and you take your chances. Good luck,,,Peace,,,Moosie

I used Hilton Auto transport for my vette. 888-318-0080 nichole, they called me every step of the way, even the driver called to tell me exactly when arriving. They were excellent to work with and reasonable on price.

I also used Able Auto Transport. Detroit to Savannah $700. Arrived dirty but in fine condition. Driver said he was tempted to stop and enter it into a car show on the way here!

I have just purchased a 71 vert in Las vegas area, the best quote is from Horseless carriage, Vegas to Ft lauderdale $1650.00 enclosed trailer. They are one of the best carriers for classics and exotics.

Use word of mouth, another way is use the carriers DOT saftey rating as an important consideration. All trucking companies have their safety records available on-line for public viewing. You shouldn't select a carrier that has a lot of accidents (miles between accidents) or gets a lot of out of service violations because they ignore maintenance. Go to the link below and....

Go to "Company Snapshot" and enter the carriers name. The results may show that several carriers have similar names, just select the name that matches best by location.

The next page will describe the company details. Look at the annual milage and how many accidents they have. Also see if their DOT saftey rating for equipment and driver is below the national average. The data may be skewed or not available for small companies though.

I've been considering using:

FedEx Custom Critical

Who moves stuff better and faster than FedEx??

I see their enclosed vehicle transport trucks all the time, extremely well maintained and clean.

Other nice thing is their online quote is automated.

Good luck.
