Hey folks, new member, been reading here for a month or so after learning about a 74 coupe that a distant family member has available.
I went and looked at the car today. Red/Tan interior 350 4 speed with 37,000 original miles. The car is basically 100% original and in pretty good shape. Both front and rear bumpers are falling apart but other than that it is VERY clean inside and out.
The car has not been driven more than 100 miles the last 4 years and has been garage kept since new.
The past owner is the neighbor, who came out when he saw me looking the car over. He bought it with 3000 miles and gave me the history. Never wrecked, original motor/trans etc.
Other than the bumpers there is a leak in the T Tops as there was some ice on the driver floor. The car was just moved out of the garage a week ago and it rained and snowed here during this time.
Power windows but no power steering or brakes. I got under the car and the frame is solid there is VERY little rust under the car. There is a little paint damage here and there, not much really, just some scratches that have been touched up.
I have been told through the grape vine that $6000 might get this car. The problem I have is the 74's seem to be all over the place in price. I can get some pretty clean already repainted and updated 74's for $10K - $12K. I figure doing most of the work myself on this one will have me at about $12K total and that would include paint and new bumpers. The end result would be a reliable driver with some piece of mind since I would have done all the work myself.

Any thoughts / input welcome.
your paying for good history, very low documented original miles, and an all original car.........that money can't buy @ $6,000
Im a year into my 74 project which I picked up for a mere $900. Now, a year later and Im up to $5000 and havent even cranked the new motor yet.(No body work, brakes, paint, interior, ect...) And thats with me doing ALL the work. Get the most for your money in the begining and then do your weekend projects.

Just keep in mind that this comment may be an oxymoron, as 1974 Corvette and reliable don't necessarily go hand in hand. If it's in the condition that you described, it's well worth the price.
People pay good money for a low mileage car, a good bit more than $6000. And you're getting a Stingray. Don't worry about the leaky t-tops. All our tops leak (the one guy whose tops don't leak - don't email me). Mine don't leak if I don't drive it in the rain. You can get replacemnt bumpers from ebay for around $150-$200 a piece, plus all paint jobs don't have to cost $6000 or more. I got a nice one locally w/body work for $1400. Get that car!

I disagree. My '74 coupe was a daily driver the entire time I owned it, running 120 miles a day, five days a week. She never gave me any trouble and never required anything other than regular maintenance.
To this day, I wish I had never traded that car. I miss her.
GET IT,,,,,,,,if you still can, no ? about it . Bumpers are relitively minor in comparison to other things that most (other) cars that age need. Peace,,,Moosie
I bought mine over four years ago for $5,000 and this is what I got.
After four years and another $22,000+, I came out with this!
Hard to imagine this is the same '74. It just depends on what you want to do and of course how many $'s you want to give up. Good Luck. Post some pics soon..........

Not bad for $27,000 eh? Can't buy a car like that so I think you did okay. I'll bet that amount would scare a lot of people.

I have never been a fan of green but WOW that is one great looking car. Hats off for a job well done. I really like the hood, been eyeing one but fighting myself still as to what I am going to do to this car......keep it 100% original or go nuts

Yeah, I was torn with the same issues. Since the car was not 100% original to start with, I went ahead and made the decision to do some customizing. In addition, green is not the most desired color you can put on a car, but this shade is outstanding and very deferent from the rest. Thanks for the comments and good luck on yours. Post some pictures soon. I hope I didn't steal this thread, I was just showing you what you can ended up with in a '74................
Hey so when are you, me, and Sam gonna get together for a beer?
Yeah, we need to hook up soon! Now that the snow has finally started to melt away I might be able to get out and do something. Shoot me an email next week and maybe we can get together next weekend............May be Hooters?
