Default what should I do?

First, thanks to all that helped me get started, but now comes the real problem. I found and bought, (actually traded for a golf cart.) a 1977 l48 all numbers matching coupe. It was a 3rd owner car. All previous owners knew each other. It has been sitting in a garage for about 15 years. The thing is disgusting, not to mention the frame is shot. My question is do I restore it or part it out? everything but the rear window defroster works. It really is an unmolested car and complete. Any ideas?

If the frame is shot, it would be less work to just part it out and use the money to buy one that is in good shape. I am lazy!!

Post some pics so others can get an idea of what you mean by disgusting. You can get a frame for a 77 for ~$500.00 and if you are ambitious you can rebuild the car and learn a lot in the process.

It will be a lot of work to part the car out between dismantling, packing and shipping parts. Plus you will eventually be left with a pile of stuff that nobody wants, like the engine.

Are you certain the frame is "shot" ???? Surface rust sometimes looks worse as it "layers"..if you want to post pics, set up free account with photobucket.com....we can guide you from there..

Thanks, I will try to figure out how to post pics, but believe me the interior while complete, is kind of moldy. I have already dismantled the car in order to assess the situation. I have no problem with ambition, I love doing it. It seems that a good frame is almost impossible to find. If I could find a good frame I would redo this car in a heart beat.

Frank

All it takes is time, money and desire.....and not necessarily in that order.

Look here for direction then look inside yourself for the answer. You and I are the same age.

I am redoing a 72 convertible. It will take me forever. And I'm OK with that.

Think about what kind of relationship you want with the car; Corvetteforum is your resource tool; only you can choose the direction to take.

Frank, take your time and do a frame off restoration. I wouldn't think the frame is shot from sitting in a garage for 15 years. Now if you told us that is was sitting in the woods or sunk into some guys backyard for 15 then maybe. Post some pic's and take a wire brush to the frame it maybe surface rust that you can clean off, prime & paint w/por 15

The most important question is whether you want this 77. If you do, you may need a frame. If you don't particularly want it, you could sell the car. Afterall, your investment to this point is a golf cart.

Now that you got the frame separated from the car you're looking at the "easier" part of the job.... cut the rusted sections out and weld new plates in... add gussets to the entire frame while you can
