As i understand those factory five kits come with a chassie set up for mustang everything, i had thought about one of these, but you will always end up with quite a bit more into it than you could ever hope to get back, and even at a low price they are hard to sell.
Anyone know anyone who has built one if these KIT CARS on a vette chassis?
LOVE THAT COLOR
Bill
I think you're talking about http://www.vipercarparts.com/kits.html. I used to know a guy in the area of Naples that had one. I'd rather have a factory five.
That copper is beautiful!
BTW, there's some guys putting LSx engines in them; THAT annoys the ford guys! Hey, Shelby wanted to put a SBC in them in the first place, so it just seems natural! If you're interested in the factory 5s, there's a very good forum at http://www.ffcobra.com.
AWW! You suck!
Keep us posted on the pics and progress. I have always wanted to build one of the kit cars. Almost sold the Vette to build one. Two teenage kids and not enough $$$ to do it right now.

I've seen one of those. It was nicely done, but the fact that is has all the same things that make the Cobra so impractical with the all the weight of a C3 make it junk. If you want a Cobra then get a Factory Five. At least you'll have a light car. YOu can easily build it for less then $20K and dump a GM engine in there if it makes you feel better.
I toured the FFR factory about a year ago. Class act. They have quite the operation there.
Unfortunately I was not aware of FFR when I bought and built my first kit several years ago. It was quite a project. Anyone thinking of buying a KC I would highly suggest that you do a LOT of homework before hand. I can pretty much assure you it will cost twice a much and take twice as long as you planned for.
If you are serious about building a Cobra check out the Huricane kits. I think the glass is higher quality than the Factory Five and the seams are in a better place which makes the bodywork easier. They sell a partially assembled kit but I didn't like the workmanship on the sheetmetal and plumbing and would rather do it myself. To do it right you will need to spend about 42k.....thats allowing 10k for a 427 small block. Do not buy the Huricane headers..they are junk, with a capital J.
There is a guy posting in General now who has been looking for a 75-77 chassis. You could always sell your frame to him and put the money toward a FFR kit.
I have (my shop) been involved in the building 7 or 8 Cobra replicas. F/F, Everett Morrison, etc. AFAIK all use a tube chassis, build to customers suspension and engine choice. They most always weigh less than 2800 lbs. Mid 12's with a stock ZZ-4. I have not seen one that costs less than 40K to build, perhaps $25K if you do all the work yourself. One of the first one's we did went up to the Car and Driver shoot-out in the late 80's and with a healthy 383 Chevy engine and C-4 suspension, recorded the fastest (at that time) slalom time ever recorded by Car and Driver!
