In themiddle of removing the TH400 from my 73 in prparation for installing the Keisler 5spd kit. Attached to the shifter linkage below the center console is a switch / harness. Looks pretty obvious what it does (send signals / open / close circuits based on what gear the car is in) but to what? Other than disconnecting all of them, do I need to anythign else with them?
Thanks
shane
The two heavy purple ones are the nuetral safety switch or on 4 speed cars the ygo to the clutch pedal. If you are not going to wire it up so the clutch has to be in to start just put those two together or make a jumper wire. The car will not start with these apart.
The pink and green ones are for the backup lights. Wire these to the switch on the side of the Tremec to have your backup lights working. Not sure on the other ones.
I just did this swap on my 73 vert/TH400 in August. Gordon is right. Also, if I remember correctly the other wires are for the reverse lights. I wired the neutral safety switch and reverse lights with no problem. Probably was the easiest part of the install.

You would not also happen to know what the linkage is that goes from the trans (oppsite the linkage coming from the shifter) but runs up to the steering column as it protrudes from the firewall?

Ignition column lock/steering column lock, won't let you turn the key unless the car is in park. Safety and anti-theft.
