Default Radiator options

I think I may have a hole in my rad
What are my options now - except changing the rad
What about something like radweld? Good / bad?
Any insight would be much appreciated

if you have a hole, there are only two options IMO

1. change it for a new one

2. change it for a new one

Radweld,Barsleak, etc, may slow/stop leak, but cooling will diminish as lower tubes get clogged up...

Pretty much a waste of time to bother trying to fix the leak.

If you can afford it, you've got dewitts.

If you're on a budget, like me, you can get a northern that'll fit fine too. PM me if you want details on it, Tom gets all whiney when I post a link.

Tom's is a bit better quality, but there's nothing wrong with using a Northern, and not a universal one like the one he uses in his comparison.

I spent some time deciding which way to go...Copper/Brass vs aluminum...I had good service from my original C/B...my replacement C/B in pic below only lasted 4 years...turns out,it was a Chinese core...thinner materials,etc...
Go to Dewitts site,as they have U.S. made copper/brass cores, and of course, excellant aluminum radiators...the advantage of aluminum is it disapates heat much quicker...

if its a large hole you should replace the rad. I purchased one from Be-Cool nice but $$. Ecklers & Mid-America have good replacement rad from $500 to $600 range. But I also fixed one that had a pin-hole leak with barsleak. It stopped the leak and did not effect the cooling.

It depends on the size of the hole & the amount of antifreeze on the garage floor. You can put the Barsleak in and use it until you decide to buy and how much you want to spend. I use to think this was a bubba fix and I would never use it until I saw a local GM dealership using it. The manager who was a friend of mine told me that it was GM approved.

If your car is NCRS quality you may want to seek out a rebuilder to have your radiator recored (Dewitts I think), or gat a quality "Direct Fit" replacement from Dewitts. Hmm, does that name seem to keep coming up?
