Just how stupid would it be if I changed the color of my 78 Anniversary Edition from silver to blue. I like the silver, but I have always been a fan of metalic blue. I really value your opinions. Thanks Bob.
There is nothing wrong with changing a car's color to what you like or prefer unless your goal with the car is to keep it's stock value for resale. To a stock numbers matching guy the new paint will take a lot away from the car. If you plan on keeping the car for a long time, and want to make it 'Yours' then by all means, paint it whatever color you like. Make it what you want.
I also have a 78 SA that I am switching to the Pace Car scheme. While I appreciate the 2 tone paint of the SA, they produced over 15k of them - more than a third of the cars produced for 78. It isn't as special as the PC.
It helps too that mine isn't a numbers matching car. In my mind, it's your car to do with however it makes you happy

What do you plan on spending to change it to a 4speed Pace Car? Would it not be less expensive to find a 4 speed pace car to start with and then you would at least have a correct car?

From what I understand - there were only a couple hundred L-82 4 speed cars. The ones on the block brint $25 - 35K. Saw one on Barrett-Jackson go for $75. I have $800 in the motor, $1500 in the 4 speed conversion & another $1200 in the interior. I do all my own work & plan on painting it myself. Plus, I bought the car CHEAP!
If I spend $15K I am way ahead of the game & basically will have a new car. Well, a new old car!
The SA color scheme was very popular in 78. The price calculators take into account the whole SA package, and the price increases by 5% or something.
In reality, I don't think the color change would affect the value of the car that much now, maybe it will in 20 years but it will always have the trim tag with the SA color scheme and could be changed back at anytime.
If you like it blue, paint it blue. I am thinking of going to a single color silver rather than the two tone.
Did you have a list of blues you liked or just that one? You can have a forum member who's good at photo chopping, change the color to what you like and you'll see it before you paint it.
