I'm in the middle of modding my 79 with a new engine and I removed the A/C and the heat entirely from the car. I installed aftermarket gauges and safety switches to new electric fans, fuel pump and ignition. I replaced all the courtesey bulbs and fuses for all the electrics. The only thing I can't get to work is the factory alarm. I hear the relay click after its armed and then I disarm it but I can't find where the horn wires are under the hood. There is a 12-14g orange wire that has constant 12 volts that's not connected to anything, and a pair of 18-20 orange and yellow wire just hanging out down there. The pair of wires don't get any juice no matter what combination I meter them in.
I have a Don Olsen wiring diagram and still can't figure this one out. I want to make sure I have the wiring setup before the initial startup. Thanks in advance for any info that might help.
My 78' has the horn mounted on the firewall drivers side about 1/2 way down. Tough to see with the booster/master in the way. Orange wire comes from fuse box (20 Amp) hot all the time and goes to a horn terminal. Yellow wire comes from the other horn terminal and goes to the anti theft flasher. Another orange wire goes to the Anti-theft relay.
My father hooked up the front horns to work with the alarm and actually also hooked up airhorns as well. Thought that the yellow wire was a ground and connected it to a ground in the harness by the alternator. I'll disonnect that and see what happens. I wonder if that will make the rest of the lights flash with the horn because they don't even flash with the horn wires off. My alarm horn is tucked in by the drivers side firewall and I have 2 other factory horns up by the nose with the airhorns. The front horns are grounded at the nose section so I guess he only hooked up the airhorns to the alarm and kept the 2 front ones separate. That's got to be it! I'm going out to the garage in a few minutes and I'll post back later tonight what I find. Thanks for the help guys, I have been in a frenzy lately trying to get everything together so that I can fire this thing up. It's been 2 years since my car had a running engine in it and now it's the final countdown.
