Default Wiring Question....

I have the motor out of my 81 and am going to be replacing it with a new crate motor. I am not going to be using the AC, air pump or cruise control anymore. Can I remove all those wires back to the fuse box. I want to clean up the engine bay. Thanks for any help.

Sure you can do that. Just be sure and get only the correct ones

Thanks sixfooter. I was very glad to hear that. I really want to clean up my engine bay. The AC and cruise was already disconnected when I got the car so I figured I would clean up the mess a little.

Hey Richie, how goes it? Congrats on the motor and glad to see you are improving your ride.

Just curious, why disconnect the A/C? With the crate motor it shouldn't be that hard to hook up. Are other parts of the system not working? Just wondering why you would shut that part of the system down. It gets hot around here once in a while. If you ever did go to sell it having the A/C working can't hurt.

Joe,
Hello there, how are you doing? The AC was not working when I got the vette. The compressor was missing as was the drier. The transducer from the cruise was also missing.
Seems like I am going to have to wait for my new motor for another year. I talked with the wife to see if I could swing a new crate motor and she said, yes. I pulled the motor and then my daughter in college calls and tells us she has been accepted into a history program. She is leaving for Rome two days after Christmas. So, there goes my new motor. But the kids must come first. This will give me the time to remove the unwanted wires and paint the engine bay. Take care. Have a great holiday.

You're right Richie. The Vette can wait and the kids come first. It's tough for kids today. We've got 3 grandkids and 1 more on the way. We're always having to help out one way or another but we don't mind (for the most part).

When the time comes, if you a need a hand popping a new motor in, give me a call. I'll take a run up and lend a hand if you need it.

Joe,
Thanks, I just may call you when the time gets here. Do you know of anyone who could give me some advice on how to make my lock up torque converter work without using the computer. I am also not going to reinstall the computer on the new motor. I know I have to change the carb and distributor. I think that I also need to have the EGR valve hooked back up, but not sure.
I really do not care about what I am doing to the value of the car. I never plan on selling it. Right now it looks like it will be at least another year befor I get a new motor. I should have waited another month or so before I pulled the old motor. It was running fine, just a little tired.

I'd suggest a lockup controller.

Joe,
Thanks a million. That is what I will get. I will most likely get my new crate motor from Summit. So far they have the best price. I am just getting the "universal350" crate motor.
Thank you again. Have a great Christmas and a Happy & safe New Year.
