Acro74 Project gets underway (pics)

Well, right now I am wanting to paint it black, add the stinger hood and paint the "stinger" portion of the hood with a dark candy blue stripe. Originaly I was going to paint a deep red, close to the stock color or a darker color kinda like yours. I have a black SUV and a black motorcycle which both are a pain to keep clean...but....what can I say, I like black
Sorry about the pic quality, our shop lights really make everything look orange

The gloss was a bit much so I covered with Chassis Black for more of a stock look.

Starting to put the new VB&P front end on. So far so good, no real surprises

Goal is to have a complete rolling chassis by the end of Feb. and spend March getting the body ready for paint by end of March. Then finish up the interior and all other loose ends by end of April
Looks great. I right behind you, waiting to blast the frame and get it painted. I bought the POR-15 and their metal prep stuff. How is it holding up after being painted on clean metal? Most of the posts I see complaining about POR have to do with painting it onto clean metal.

Thanks!
It looks great and seems tuff as nails. I hit it with their metal prep , then coated with the Por-15 high gloss. Since I had to let it sit while I was out of town, I had to recoat with their metal primer before I recoated with the Chassis Black. I'm sure the Por-15 will last longer than I do.
I think the key is following their instructions. I also seen guys complain about the Chassis Black drying and having different colors. I did not have this problem, I think the key there is to mix it REAL well as the Chassis Black has a lot of seperation in the can.
One thing is for sure, the rear trailing arms are a PITA and those emergency brakes just about had me pulling my hair out. But after having to put the unit together and take it apart 3 times &^%$#@.....I now feel like an expert
Here is a shot I posted way back, the day the body came off which is about 1 1/2 months ago.

Here is what it looks like today

Will be back on it some this weekend between going to Vettefest and celebrating my birthday. Bought myself all the glass stuff I need and will be picking it up at the show....so if you see a guy with a front and rear bumper walking around...thats me

Here are a few more pics from the last few weeks. Pretty close to having the chassis done, should be real close by the end of this weekend.

These damn things..arrgghhh. Hope they never have to come apart again on my watch

So far still on schedule to have it done by end of April
All thats left to do on the frame is fuel lines, fuel tank, finish up the rear suspension and brakes, install the half shafts and then locktite everything down. Then it's time to start on the body
Once I get the tires back on it I will roll it outside to take some better pics, away from those orange shop lights

The hold up has been moving a new venture into the shop. We dabbled in bikes here and came to an agreement with a bike builder from Florida to move up here and start a new custom bike shop. The time it took to get everything moved in, paper work etc. eat up most of my time the past 2 months. Now that we are up and running the car is back. One small detail that has created a problem is the addition of another vette to the stable
I couldnt pass up this deal. Guy was moving out of state and didnt want to take the car with him. He was leaving in a week and wanted it gone. Well, looks like we have another project for this coming winter
Say hello to the new (to me) 72. Pretty much 100% original, 85K miles. SB, auto, air, PS, PB.

WOW.....better than 3 years since an update:oWell as life would have it, many things have changed since my last update. Some for the better, some for the worse. Reading through this thread was like, well, 3 years in the life of.
The bike shop is still going, the partner is long gone (thank GOD), along with the significant other and one business sold but another started.

I have actually expanded the business in the building all these photos were taken and we are now a full blown auto body / custom bike shop. The bike shop has gotten much smaller as that market is pretty dead around these parts. We still do some fab and paint work on bikes but the focus has moved to my real passion since a young teenager....CARS!!! We are now a full blown resto and fab shop for the most part, doing full builds to restoration, collision repair and custom paint.....man it just seems soooo strange to read this thread and flash back through my own life, got to love the internet

I have added all that is needed to be a full service shop from mechanical down to a paint booth and low and behold while cleaning up I found a 1974 Vette project that I started posting about here 4 years ago....WOW!

Will post some updated pictures as soon as the camera battery charges. Lots has changed since the first post. I got ripped off from the motor builder.....still no motor 4 years later and he has all my money, still in business and even local law enforcement are involved as there are many he has screwed
Molded in the front and rear bumpers, shaved door handles and got rid of door locks, color has changed 5 times, but am comitted now since we have actually started spraying the jambs yesterday....which got me to thinking about this thread.I have changed my mind so many times on this car that I am once again excited about the final product. So I hope you all will welcome me back and will enjoy the pics to come. Pics coming soon...PROMISE!
The new (to us) side down draft booth. We are getting ready to put a coat of feather fill on the car after a primer coat was sanded down probably a year ago. At this point the body is still on the frame as we had another body on the body dolly.

Feather fill blocked out and body back off frame since body dolly freed up. Removed doors to start working on jambs. Ready to put 2 coats of primer and block out all over again.

Primer done. good shot of the molded in bumpers and hours of work getting all gaps even.

OK....Enough for tonight. Will post of shots of the shaved doors and jamb edging next time.....promise it wont be 4 years till next post

Bob
