Default 1969 Dream Machine

Hello everyone!! This is day has come that i have wanted for along time.. My father is getting rid of his vette and i wish it was given to me but he needs the money so im going to buy it from him. Its a 1969 Stingray Black T top side tail pipes all original badass machine. This vette has not run in over 3 years and need some minor work.

My name is Tim I am 29 years old from Ohio but now reside in Naples Florida. My father has had this car since in 1970.

I need to find someone in the SW florida area that likes and knows how to work on this car. I NEED A MECHANIC I am a sports nut, not a car nut so my knowledge about cars is little.

I look forward to being on here learning and meeting new people. Once i get the car in my posession i will take and post pics.

Thanks everyone and Merry Christmas!!!

Congrats on your new 69 . Sounds like a real nice car. Nice to keep it in the family. You will become a mechanic of sorts the longer you keep that Vette. Trust me.

Let's see some pics! Can't tell us about your car.......we need to see it. If you own a C3 you'd better become a car nut and mechanic real quick, otherwise the car will break you.

James here in SE Florida, 27 yr. old. Have an '82 Vette and a '72 project. Not too many guys our age are into Vettes.

I'm a sports nut too. Sports and hot cars go hand in hand. You'll pick it up fast.

Default Local Mechanic...that would be you :)

yeah the other person said it best "you will become a mechanic of sorts" it's true I purchased a 68 vette back in July and tried using many of the local shops like D&M here in chicago area but when I saw the costs associated with the reapairs I just about had a heartatache so now I am the mechanic on my vette and when it comes to tricky things on the motor just look for someone on craigslist.com that is willing to stop by and lend you a hand remember these motors are pretty simple not a lot of technology on them so any mechanic that knows anything about a motor should be able to help out.

Yeah. Thats what i was thinking.. The technology back then was no where what it is today.. Most things i think i could do. I think the most trouble for me will be locating what the problem is when there is one. meaning. why is this car doing this??? I am up for the task and i have a LIFETIME to work on it.

Hey james.. You dont see many younger guys into vettes. I was bitten when i was a kid growning up with this car.. I dont think he let me drive it till i was 18 or 19.. I have driven it a hand full.. SO im very excited!!! i really love the idea of being able to drive it year round down here!! Once i get it to my house i will get pics up!!!

I have a question.. This car has sat for about 3 years. Not been started very much. Can someone give me a quick checklist of what i need to do?? Clear all the lines, change oil??? Am i gonna be ok cranking it over after all this time???

Certainly change fluids...flush radiator..I'd change all hoses...fuel,power steering,radiator hoses,heater hoses..check oil in tranny,rear end...
You will need a repair manual like Chilton's "Corvette 1968-1982 Repair Manual"...read thru that first...

Default I Agree with rich on hoses...

I agree with Rich on the hoses you may also need to replace or rebuild your carb depending on whether or not the fuel has gummed up in it.

Welcome to the forum looking forward to hearing your journey.
