Default Wiper Problem

Hi guys...i'm new to the C3 scene here. I just picked up a '79 a month or two ago and the weather's been bad of late. Shes my daily driver for the time being so making sure the wipers work right is a big deal right now. They work...and thats not the problem. The problem is that when on high (and sometimes low) speed, the driver side wiper insists on beating the living daylights out of the trim on the side of the window. Other than being irritating, its destroying the wiper blades. Is there any way to adjust the travel on these things? I'm sitting here at work right now and its pouring outside so I can't really go out and give a good look right now but it would be cool to have some suggestions for when I get home.

Thanks in advance

Should be able to pull off the arm at the drive stud and move it around a tooth or two to get it where you want. The shaft is splined with fine teeth. Can sometimes be a bear to get off lift the arm up so the tension is off the stud and pull straight up.Should work.

The assembly instruction manual (AIM) has a page showing how the wiper arms were adjusting on the assembly line.

as strange as it may sound, a good tool to help "lift" the arm off is a good old beer can opener (of the church key variety, lol). use a piece of wood to block it up and use the point on the beer can opener to help convince the arm to come off. once it's off, it doesn't hurt to put a little (and i mean a little) "never-seize" in the threads to help you get the arms off in the future should they need to be adjusted further or replaced.

well I dont think I have a beer can opener laying around but I do have some odds and ends things that might be similar. I'll post back with results tonight.

EDIT:

Didnt seem to work out like that. The wiper arm came off pretty easily, but I theres no way to adjust the travel from there. The arm attaches in a soft of keyed fasion so it only goes on one way. at the center of the wiper arms however are slots for adjusting the length of travel on the armatures that attach directly to the electric wiper motor. sad thing is....its already in all the way and it wont budge any further. Time to break out the dremal!!
