Transmission Interlock Cable

What does it do? I have a 71 coupe the transmission was changed to an automatic the cable is hooked to the steering column but it is not hooked to the transmission. I am doing a body off restoration and need to remove it.

All it does is disable the ignition from working if you keep the lever in the upward position your ignition will work. now everyone correct me lol

thats right, locks key when in reverse with a manual, I have manual but it is not hooked up, guess not really to important.
