I am installing new trailing arms, and wondered if anyone had tips, or techniques to pass along.
I saved the old shims for reference, and measured their total thickness, thinking I could just install the new ones with the correct thickness.
I have found that I can't quite get all of the new shims in, as there is not room. I'm thinking that the new trailing arm bushing is thicker than the older, worn-out one. Aside from that, I know I need to look at track, toe-in, and camber. Any suggestions? I used the original-style shims for 1970, which are not removable unless you remove the main bolt.
Just center the TAs with the shims for now it will need a real alignment anyway. Look at the sides of the frame where the pivot bolt went thru and make sure its not distorted from being tightned to tight before, if it is put a little heat on it and push it out. I highly recommend the new style stainless shims, makes life a lot easier.
