My 75 has a Composite rear spring. I've noticed in some photos here on the Forum, some people have what appears to be a stainless steel or aluminium piece attached to the bottom of the spring, at the center, below the Differential. I understand, this is to protect the spring from exhaust heat. Can you buy these?
How hard is it to put on?
if u have a Vette Brakes monospring just call VB's or email them to get their shield and if it's a TRW spring contact Muskegon Brake on getting a shield. you should be able to put one on by just removing the spring retainer plate or just to be safe remove the end bolts of the spring 1st.
The one that came with my VBP spring isn't long enough to protect my spring from my new dual exhaust, so I am going to make a new one. There are several places online that will cut stainless sheet of any thickness to any size. I am going to up the thickness of the shield while I'm at it. The original was a little too flimsy for me.
I didnt get a heat shield w/ my SS suspension kit either! I read a thread saying 3 inch min.clearance between glass spring and exhaust. Wish it came w/kit, looks like you have to take spring BACK out to instal a shield.

No, you don't need to remove the spring to add a heat shield. You just need to remove the 4 bolts (3 bolts for '80-'82) to take off the spring mounting plate, hold the heat shield up on the spring, and re-install the mounting plate. I have mine off to add a traction bar I made.
