as soon as I got my stingray I've always had this idea, and in dont know if others have as well...
But I've always thought it would be cool (pun intended) to have the flat rear window be able to retract down behind the seats. I know that mine is sealed in. But aren't there some c3's with removable rear windows?
Anyhoo, whether that's an option or not. How difficult would it be to install a track and mechanism to rollup and down the rear window?

Some of the early C3s did have the removable window, and a later C3, up to '77, can have this option added to is fairly easily. If you want a drop down window, that slides down...look to the Honda Del Sol for inspiration.

It had an electric slide down rear window.
That sounds like a pretty slick custom option to add.
It would be a lot of work. Probably look to the Honda for parts, too.
You would need the glass made custom, as the stock glass is not long
enough to bolt tracks to.
Probably makes sense to use Lexan or similar material.
Of course, the down-side is that you lose half the storage area back there.
Yeah, I know ... half a thimble isn't much smaller than a whole thimble.
It's up to you, but I'm willing to bet you're going to want the rear storage space this type of set up is going to require. What are your plans for the car? If you intend to sell at some future point, your custom window will probably hurt your selling price.

If I were you I would just convert to the removable rear window. It will cost far less, it's easily undone, and it's not that hard to remove the window and pop it back in.
I don't think you would have the room to fully lower the window. The rear wheel well opening is there along with the seabelt retractor. The are previous posts of the removeable 68-72 rear window in the tech section.
