Checking for matching numbers drivetrain - '82 CE?
Hey folks, would checking for a matching numbers engine be the same for a Collector Edition (CE) as it would a non-CE '82 Vette?
Where exactly would the engine numbers be, and I'm assuming they contain the VIN (or the last numeric characters) at least?
I'm looking at another one, and since it doesn't have much documentation or history, I want to have a closer look to see that the engine and trans are the ones it left Bowling Green with!
The engine assembly date, suffix code, and engine vin derivative are stamped on a pad at the front of the cylinder case on the passenger side. The vin derivative would look like this 1C51xxxxx where x = the vin sequence......on an 82 w/air it's a little difficult to see. You have to use a powerful flashlight and look down between the head and ac comp.
Also a true CE will have a vin like this 1G1AY0786C51XXXXX
A regular 82 will have an 8 in place of the 0.
BTW, the trans will also have the vin derivative stamped to a boss near the top of the case on the pass side.
