I'm trying to figure out the original engine that was in my 1971 vert. I have a lot of conflicting components. But I was able to remove the paint that covered the part of the emissions decal that goes on top of the firewall just above the brake booster in the engine compartment. The part of the decal that has the engine info (upper left part of decal) was missing. But this is what the right side of the decal says:
I just did a search with the decal part no. and the word "corvette" and got two hits. One is the Yankee Lady Corvette Swap Meet and the other was Pacific Corvette Parts. They both had the part no. as a 454/365 hp.
The Yankee Lady referenced Dobbins Restoration Publishing, Inc.
Labels, Decals, Fact Books as the manufacturer of the decals and they reference the number as a GM part number.
I'm trying to document whether my car was a 454 or not. This may help if other concur as to this aspect of the evidence.
Either way, I'm in the process of having a 1970 454/390 hp engine machined and rebuilt (for the first time) to put into the car. That engine came stock with 500 ft lb of torque. I'm still trying to find out if my tach is original or not. Its a 6500-7000 red line.
