Default luggage rack opinions.

I originally posted this on the for sale board....been posting so much there that I forgot there are other boards, .

What do you guys think of the luggage rack on the back? I've been to other boards on this forum and it seems more than a few folks do not like the luggage rack.

I have not made up my mind if I like mine or not, so far it doesn't seem to upset me like it does some other people?

Personally I like mine,It was one of the things I was looking for when I bought my 77.I think it dresses it up a little more.To each his own though.I guess thats why they come both ways....

I honestly think that they take away from the sexy appearance of the car. Just my $.02. Really, a Corvette is a sexy car with or without a rack though and they ARE very practical considering the other luggage storage alternatives......................

They take away from the looks. Ditch it! They look like a barbecue grill.

I'd imagine you'd have to do some minor bodywork where the rack was secured?

It's the first thing that I removed from my car when I got it. I agree with the others that it takes away from the look of the car.

Supervette, as mine isn't yet here to check, if you remove the rack will there not be holes where the rack was secured to the car?

Yes, there will be holes. My car originally had a rack at one time. I can see where one of the holes was filled in at one time. If you travel, I guess they're handy, but a Vette is all about the speed, not carrying luggage.

I have mine removed right now. I'll take some pics of the holes that it leaves in the morning. I've heard people on this forum say that you'll always see the dimples where the holes were in your paint, but I'm going to risk it. Figure if I bond a piece of fiberglass on the backside of each hole and fill it with duraglass or something hard that the filler won't sag.

Oh, and I agree that it takes something away. On my '72 I'm removing all the locks, the rear emblems (letters), and my antennae. Not big on excessive chrome and thinks it takes a little away from a sexy paint job.

There are plugs that you can paint to match that lay relatively flat on the surface and for the most part are not that noticeable. You see alot of the Mustang guys do it that way when they lose the spoiler. Cheaper and easier than going the body work route. Would depend on just how you feel about it.

And not only good looking, but very useful for that weekend drive to the Easter Shore to spend the weekend.

Obviously, they do not work or look good on the bubble window cars, (1978 thru 1982). I personally love the way they look on the 1974 thru 1977 models. They seem to break up the all plastic look of the rubber bumper cars.

I don't mind it on the rubber bumper cars. The chrome seems to do something for the back.
