I posted a question about the heads on my 68 and was told that they were unique or rare because they were taller then original. I was wondering if anyone had ever heard of "camel hump heads" and if they were available or offered on the 68 or any corvette. Im not sure if that is what this person was telling me about the heads on my motor or not. Thanx
1 more question does anyone know how to erase a thread after you post it. I wrote 2 out and messed up and wanted to erase them but couldnt figure the damn thing out. thanks again
From: In the shop most of the time,,, And it BEER TIME somewhere
To erase your other post, go to the post and in the lower right there will be a blue box that says edit, hit that and you will be given a delete option. Just go through it step by step, its easy. As far as your heads, to you have the casting # for them.
camel hump/ heads have 2 humps on top of the square ,raised area, near the top of the head,in the middle axis. + .you should be able to see it on at least one head. Not certian of this fact, but think they were 194 valves. In earlier years, they were the "hot" set up.
Trying real hard to remember but the CRS syndrome keeps kicking in,,, werent camel hump heads or double hump heads also "fuelly heads", they were the hot set up back when,, even before chevy came out with their angle plug heads, I do remember that they were not drilled on the ends for mounting accessories/necessities. Peace,,,Moosie
"Camel Hump, fuelie or double hump" heads are all the same castings. They are not all that uncommon but they are pretty much obsolete now. They used to be the hot ticket for factory performance heads but unless you have to run a class legal production head for racing purposes they are not the ones to run. The early versions do not have holes in the ends for accessories but the later castings have the holes. They came in both 1.94"/1.5" valves and 2.02"/1.6" valves. The bigger valves were used on the SHP engines only. They are best used for restoration purposes as aftermarket heads have become a better deal hands down.
Thank you Mark, stingr69, thats how I seem to remember it, its neat how the aftermarket has surpassed what used to be the ultimate from the General,,,most times at a cheaper cost. Progress, aint it grand,,,Peace,,,Moosie
