I am using the aluminum shield on my Delco starter and have had no problems, but it is not a daily driver. My car has headers which make the shield a very tight fit. Heat from the headers caused vapor lock problems, so I have since covered them with header wrap that cooler everything down nicely. If you are using the stock exhaust manifolds you can take the easy route and get the velcro wrap. It would be much easier to apply and probably more than adequate. This is just my opinion as I have no experience with the velcro heat shield.

Thanks! I do have the stock manifold so I'll look into the velcro approach...seems real simple. Is the aluminum shield that big?
No, it is not that big and will fit in the space you have nicely. I was thinking about how necessary it is for your application against the installation effort. If you have had problems with heat killing your starter, I'd say go with the metal shield. If you are just adding it as a precautionary measure, I'd say the velcro wrap is more than adequate. The metal shield mounts to the two screws on the front of the starter. The effort involved is considerably more than just wrapping with a velcro blanket. You choose which suits your need best.

i think starter heat shields must be thin or the chances of retaining heat after the car is turned off increase.....i think the ministarters are the way to go.
