I just got my Vette at the beginning of December and I added it to my insurance with my other vehicles (All State), but I think they are sticking it to me on cost. Don't get me wrong All State has always been good but I think classic cars may be out of their league. It's costing me about 500 for six months of driving and about 250 for 6 months of storage. I have seen allot of people mention Hagerty and Grundy and I like their prices (about 300 a year) but I would like to know if any you have had to file a claim and how they were to deal with.
When I had two 73's I was able to insure both of them with Haggerty for one full year for what it would have cost me for one for six months with State Farm.
If you can live with the restrictions, then classic/collector insurance is the only way to go.
I have had a hard time finding out exactly what their restrictions are from their websites. The only thing I have heard so far is that it can not be your daily driver. I guess I'm more interested in how they are to deal with if you need to make a claim. I'm guessing cheap insurance is great when you don't have a claim but it may suck when you do.
Luckly I have never had a claim. But have read on pervious posts (may want to try a search for Hagerty) that they did not have any problems, submitted estimates and got check couple of days later. You pick your own repair shop.
From the Hagerty web site regarding restrictions:
Hagerty’s ability to offer low premiums and generous benefits is a testament to our clients – some of the most responsible drivers on the road today. In order to continue to offer the comprehensive coverage and competitive rates Hagerty is known for, we must consider several important factors in the approval process:
Usage. Hagerty provides coverage for vehicles that are used on an occasional basis -- e.g. club functions, exhibitions, organized meets, tours and limited pleasure driving. Storage. Collector vehicles must be stored in a fully enclosed, locked garage when not in use. Driving records. Generally, one or two minor traffic violations or accidents are acceptable. We are not able to insure those who have experienced major infractions such as a DUI, reckless driving or excessive speed violations within the past 3-6 years.* All household driving records are subject to review by an underwriter. Regular-use vehicles. Each licensed household driver needs to have a regular-use vehicle for daily driving and must maintain regular-use insurance in his or her own name.

HAGERTY...........though i never filed a claim,
THEY ARE PROFESSIONALS & THAT IS THEIR SPECIALTY All state does'nt have a clue !!!
My buddy had his camper gutted and re-done at a high cost they insured it at that cost .It caught fire and damaged it beyond repair State Farm sent them a check for $2200.00 dollars not the 27thousand they had it insured for they were heart broken dont let this happen to you. They said It was Old well we all have old vetts. dont we?
I just bought a '68, from what people here and a couple other forums I went with Hagerty's. Did pretty much everything on line, the people there I did talk to were very friendly and helpfull. I insured the vette for $25K, got high limit liability to match my daily driver policy, and since it is a used 39 year old car, I got the roadside assist package (good for any car you drive).
Premium is just over $300 / year, but 125 of that (iirc) is for the roadside assist.
Thanx Blue and Fking. Based on everyones comments I know I will switch to Hagerty or Grundy. I really wanted to know how they treat their customers when they have a claim and it sounds like they both do an outstanding job. Plus the price will allow me to spend more money on the Vette.
I've never had to place a claim but I know of someone that has and he received the "agreed value"...no questions asked. They even offered the car back at pennies on the dollar.
I have $300K/$300K w/$45K agreed value with no deductible for $297 a yr.
No matter who you go with make sure the policy states Agreed Value....meaning both you and the Ins co agree on what you will receive on a total loss. Also don't sign up for additional $ road side assistance....AAA is much better and cheaper.

Back in February, two clowns decided to mix it and then decided to plow into me while I was sitting at a red light. Both got ticketed. One had Allstate and the other had State Farm. Allstate claimed 50% while State Farm refused the claim. Filed a claim with Hagerty, they paid the claim, less deductible, including addition costs I submitted after receiving the estimate. I told them I was doing the mechanical repairs myself. They did not argue. Hagerty recovered their money through subrogation and refunded my deductible.
.... '72 is 25k value and full coverage for all 12 months for $192 annual............State Farm....
For State Farm that sounds like their every day policy, same as insuring a '72 chevy 4-door. Check your policy and confirm that you have "Agreed" value and not something like "Stated" value. All stated value does is allow them to charge you more and not pay more.

All of the classic car insurance companies do not allow "general transportation" - no infrequent to work travel, no short errands, no substituting for another vehicle while being repaired or whatever. Essentially, only for show, parades, etc.
That is why they are so inexpensive. You can't drive the car!
