Default Alternator Pulley

Has anyone put a Powermaster alternator on a 1970 454 with power steering? The pulley on my original equipment alternator has a 5/8 in. shoulder behind the V groove and aligns with the front crank pulley groove. The pulley on the Powermaster doesn't.

I haven't on my '70 L-46 small block, but someday I might. For my own curiosity, and to help you out, what's the number on your alternator and do you have A/C?

The number of the Powermaster alternator is 27294.

What is the number on your original equipment alternator. Is it 1100900?

Sorry I don't know, replaced the original in 1976.

If your original water pump pulley has 2 grooves, and the crank pulley has 2 grooves, the aft groove is for a belt that runs from the crank to the water pump. The front groove runs from the water pump to the crank and then to the PS pump rear groove. The front groove on the PS pump runs the Alternator. The alt pulley has the 5/8 offset to align it with the PS pump. My 69 BB is setup that way too.

Any reason you can't change the pulley on the new alternator from the old one?
