Went through this same scenario back in 1992 when Vette shopping. The second owner was selling a "1980 L-82". The car was obviously an L-48 with badges and I told them so. They said I was not the first shopper to say so and asked how I knew. I am sure they had been ripped off when they got it.
They continued to run the ad in the paper with the L-82 in the description for several more weeks.
They were clearly misled by the original owner (a "friend" of theirs) and had little issue with doing the same to the next guy. Not a new story.-Mark.
