Default Three-Point Seat Belt Question

I hope you C3 folks don't mind me posting here but three-point seat belts are not common in C2s and they are in C3s.

I have been concerned with safety for some time, particularly with cars that contain only lap belts such as my 1967. In 1966-67 there were optional shoulder belts and two years ago I had a set made up to GM specs. But this is a two-belt, two-buckle system and very uncomfortable to use.

So last November I ordered a three-point belt system with retractors. They came with generic tongues and buckles that I recently removed and had GM Mark of Excellence versions installed. In finishing up that project this week I suddenly realized that I do not know the function of one part. And the instructions are no help. In the pic there is a black plastic piece just to the right of the buckle and tongue. It slides on the webbing. Does anyone know the purpose of that piece?

If I remember correctly, it's used to preposition the male portion. After you install the system and adjust it to you, the slider is placed so that the male portion doesn't slide all the way down. More a convenience item than anything.

No problem

If missing the obvious were lethal, I'd be dead many times over!
