Now that Barrett-Jackson has sold the "Last Stingray" I am curious if anyone knows the last VIN number in 1976 that was produced, THE LAST STINGRAY!!!
May be my ignorance, but I've heard that 1976 was the last year the 'Ray insignia was on a Vette...
I saw that '67 go thru Barrett Jackson also, and technically I believe they got it right. The Sting Ray (2 words) ended in '67, I think, and Stingray was given to some later models, like my '76. Not a bad price for that Vett...$600k. How come you and I didn't buy it back in '67?

Almost forgot, the last SN for the '76 was 1Z37L6S446558, according to Black Book. Unfortunately, it's not mine.
That "Last Sting Ray" that Pro Team has been promoting forever has always kinda rubbed me the wrong way. If you read their literature, it said "sure they made Corvettes after 1967, but who really cares". I always thought that was very arrogant of them. That being said, I saw the 600K car at Carlisle this past August and it is probably worth it to someone who has that kind of money. I sure would like to know where all these people come from that can drop over 100K for a car at Barrett-Jackson and not even think about it. I'll keep plugging along fixing up my "back here in reality" 79.

I couldn't agree with you more
My thoughts as I watched along..."sure would be a great place to clean up some dirty money"...of course, that's pure conjecture on my part
I live in South Florida and you would be amazed at some of the cars you see down here. $100k to a lot of these people is pocket change.
Yeah, I don't doubt that...only reconfirms "dirty money" theory...does BJ verify it's clean money if you walk in with a suitcase of $100's? I would bet not...if it ain't counterfit, they'll take it, but again just conjecture...

I don't know about that. A lot of car dealers in S. FL won't accept cash anymore. Also, when you open a bank account down here they really check you out, particularly if you are making daily meaningful cash deposits. A banker friend of mine told me it is the bank's responsibility to do so or they'll have the Feds on them.
I believe what they arer refering to the last stingray is that after 67 the word stingray was split up in two words Sting Ray
You are on the right path however oh so wrong young C3 owner. The last Sting Ray (two words) was a C2 production model and the later Stingray (one word) is a C3 production model. Two different cars. Its just another case of rebadging like the GTO.
Yup...I'm sure these days the banks (and I'm sure Craig Barrett as well)have to be very careful, even up North here, a high dollar deposit BETTER be explainable....I just remember Mike Joy explaining how the cars were paid for...cash was mentioned, but not explained in depth...
Oh well, 7 more hours annoying my girlfriend with BJ and we'll be off to the races soon
BJ helps these rich dudes out with these Charity auctions. Bid to the hilt, come out with a car, and then write it off. These people aare from a diffrent planet. Or I have missed something completly.
They got 600K on the block- That's a lot for a car with NO HISTORY! That thing was junk- then Poof!- it's special- I think the "LAST" hype should have brought 100K + the 75K the car's worth ----175K would have been right on.
Ask any average American what just drove by (C3) and they'll say a Corvette Stingray. When asked (about my 79) I say yes, it's the stingray model. I believe Stingray to be a body styling term.
There are definately thousands of REALLY special cars out there in private collections that have really cool historys, and were owned and/or driven by celebrities, political figures, criminals, sports stars, race drivers etc. Those cars are the ones that will trickle out to the auction as the present generation dies off and the "ME" generation siblings sell off the estates.
Wouldn't you like to see a common '76 L-48 that was owned by the likes of Joe Namath, or Joe Montana. Meybe even a one owner. I would pay more for that.

You need a letter from you bank stating how much you could afford to spend.

Federal law, anything over $10,000 in cash must be reported to the feds(IRS) checks are traceable. Also, if your cash deposits look "suspicious" they should be reported to the feds as well.
I had a car dealer fill out one of those forms on me for a down payment in check form.
