I can't comment on the color availability, but can say I used SEM dye in my 81 Z28 and 5 years later when I sold the car, it still looked as good as the day I dyed it. I was not changing the color, just bringing back faded to new looking. BTW, the dark blue I used for my Z28 was a great match, so if you happen to be working with a dark blue interior, in your Vette, you might be in luck.

Hmm? Wonder why they have 81 Chevrolet Camaro colors and not 81 Chevrolet Corvette colors?
Check your local yellow pages for fabric and upholstery wholesalers and distributors and give them a call. Thats where I found the SEM dyes - at a local distributor in the Tampa Fl area. The distributor I found also sold a complete line of automobile upholstery, headliner material and automotive insulation. They had no problem selling "retail" to the public. There should be somone like that in your area. Used SEM it to re-dye my carpets. Came out pretty good.
SEM is an "automotive interior lacquer". It is just been successfully maketed in a spray can. Great choice for most people when spray guns were several hundred bucks.
You can go to that same automotive paint store and get the same or better interior lacquer mixed to your interior trim tag code no. made by Dupont or PPG etc. Big stores can even put it in a spray can for you.
With a cheap eBay or Harbor freight spray gun you can get pro results.
Get the directions and msds sheets and follow them.
I was in Harbour freight Friday and HVLP Paint guns were $9.99. I have a couple of these and they do good for backyard priming, minor painting and dyeing. Buy the metal can and it will be easier to keep clean.
The dye I bought was not listed specifically for 81 Z28's it was just the dark blue SEM dye that the Eastwood Company carries, it just happened to be pretty much a perfect match.
