Many hundred years ago I had a custom Metalic Blue 55 Chevy 2 door sedan with a White Platnium pearlessent lacquar paint job in the engine room. All the seams were filled and most of the wires were hidden. The engine , painted a Dark blue, was a 430 ci Buick. Boy did that look sharp. Next time I pull my engine that is what is going in my 76 Red coupe, the paint ,not the engine.

Red car with a blue motor and white engine compartment... how... um, patriotic
I saw yellows yellow compartment with the black fleck I think...cant remember his exact user name...has the cool comic c3 with pipes and flames as an avater...yellow73 possibly....
The main reason I painted the engine bay light machine grey was to eliminate the 'dark corners'.
That is what I call the areas that are hard to see and get neglected.
My '77 is an all weather road tripping/weekend party animal, so I just completely overhauled the engine accessories (the motor is a fresh 355.) It might not look like it, but there's over $3000 in new parts stuck in there. All OEM emmisions and accessories (a/c, cruise, sans TAC) are in place and operable. Fortunately, the 48-state '77 never came with AIR (air injection), so I didn't have to worry about that.
It's almost done--I'm driving to Orlando with Julie this weekend, so I'll be up late the next 2 nights--still so many little details to wrap up....
The yellow trim is a filler/primer and will be painted.
It looked very much like this--maybe worse--when I bought the car:

I don't believe there were any Vettes produced with any color other then black in the engine compartment...
Correct. Engine bays went through the blackout process. Most surfaces are semiflat black, flat black, or gloss black. Some stock fan shrouds are unpainted dark gray fiberglass.
