i'm going to paint my t-top chrome frame, it'll be matte black and will match the new all black interior...i've been told that to let the new paint on chrome 'stick' well, it must be applied a special stuff before painting...
anyone have pics of dechromed and painted t-top frames? (i saw a nice one last year but lost it...i think the car was yellow), thanks
The big part is stainless not chrome. In order for paint to stick as best as possible it must be etched with strong acid and/or heavily abraded with sandpaper or blasting. Since stainless is relatively inert, it won't grip paint all that well, especially when considering R&R of T tops.
In addition, these pieces are hard to find and expensive.
It can however be put thru the "black oxide" plating process. Contact a plater for that.
So, if it were mine I wouldn't do it, at least to my good piece.
