C3 Designation Why So Long

Anyway, trying to break down the C3 into different generations is ridiculous. Of course there are sub categories, mostly bumper cars vs everything else (I would personally include the '73 with the bumper cars seeing how they still have some chrome bumper to them.)
Still, the basic body design was the same from 68-82 and there is no good reason to think otherwise.
'84-'90 Corvettes look dramatically different (even worse) than the 91-96... and thats still all one generation. Serious body and interior changes.
Someone can't tell the difference between a C5 and a C6? Uh, OK. New at this, are ya?
And as far as shows go, Ive always hated being grouped all together (C1 vs C5 Corvettes... they are more like a late model Camaro than a solid axle car). The problem is, many people have a habit of looking at car show classes solely through the perspective of their own personal car and how smaller classes would benefit them... the fact is people who run shows cannot provide for every little design change over the years of one model when they only have a limited amount of trophies to hand out. Most car show entrants give no thought to this.
At the very least, it would be great if general car shows would have a minimum of 3 classes: Corvette 53-82, 84-date, and Modified. Any more is unreasonable. You usually get less.

You do well on 73. Here's some help on 78.
78 25th Anniversary. Major changes. The body & interior were redone in 78. Fastback, different interior, new dash with a glovebox, new door panels, new seats in Pace Car, larger gas tank, temporary spare, etc.
Anniversary emblems on all.

"Larry Shinoda, the famous Corvette designer, once commented in an interview that the 1973 was his favorite of the post-1967 era because the front and rear styling were closest to what the stylists originally had in mind when this series was first designed."
(Illustrated Corvette Buyer's Guide by Michael Antonick).
