Buzzer when door is open
Well I just got my new 71 home. I don't have an owners manual yet, so I will ask away here. When the drivers door is open, there is a buzzer that goes off. I have located the buzzer under the hood and it has a number of wires going into it. Is there a way of disabling this? Is this part of the security system? What is the security system on a 71 involve?

The buzzer is also part of the horn relay as you found out. It should only come on when the key is in the ignition and the door is opened (is that what yours does?) it's not part of the security system. The security system has a key switch on the rear panel (looks like a trunk lock) with a horn mounted to the leftside firewall next to the fender. Not sure which wire turns on the buzzer, but the heavy red wires are the main power feed from the battery so don't remove them.

It's the Door Ajar system and it's stock. Not only will it buzz, there is probably a tell-tale in the center cluster which lights and displays Door Ajar. The buzzer should not sound with the key out of the ignition.

There is a small switch in the steering column that makes contact when the key is inserted. Sounds like yours is kaput. See attached Jim Shea paper on what to look for.
