I see the other sides point. I was down in Florida after Ivan hit and people were living in FEMA trailers. FEMA would only let you live in their trailer for 90 days, then you had to move on. The problem was no place to go. No apartments, no houses to rent, etc. These were working people with great jobs. Most had to convince friends to let them park trailers in there driveways until apartments were available. It was a sad sight for America.
Then Christmas day a Tsunami hits Asia, American people were giving money left and right to help people over there. Concerts, etc. I'm looking at this thinking, there are Americans living in FEMA trailer about to quite their jobs and move to another state just to have a place to sleep. And we are worried about a country halfway around the world.
What is wrong with this country.....Sorry about the Rant Blue, but the hard fact is the Florida tornados barely made the news out of state. Most don't even know about the insurance crap you guys are going through.

Thanks Budman.
Like you, I've often thought recently about how much money we spend to help others outside our country (who DO need help) but leave our own hard working Americans to fend for themselves with what seems like little reguard for them. Glenn
Yeah. We, because we live right where it happened, are getting all kinds of 'personal' stories of the misery and fear they went thru. One 17 year old girl was found under a big tree still in her bed under the tree. All they could see was her hand sticking out. We get to see some of the old folks staring blankly at what was all they had, now in a scattered pile of rubble. The look of hopelessness in their eyes would tear your heart out if you could also see it. Glenn
Glad you were spared
You have had 2 near misses in the last couple months. We were in Orlando during Xmas when the othe tornados came thru. And I see that those people were refused Federal aid, but all the media reports is that they initially applied for it and made it seem like they were going to get it. Media should cover the fact that the Feds refused aid. That's the big story.
There are still people in the center of the state who don't have roofs from the hurricanes before Katrina. Don't even remember their names anymore. And that was a long time ago.
These people tend to be forgotten after the news media lets the stories go. There are still "BlueRoofs" around here and there shouldn't be.
After all the scandals about the American Red Cross after 9-11, we donate to the Salvation Army. They seem to keep a lower profile, a much less abusive overhead, truly still have their goal on track which is to respond quickly and help.

Noonie, I don't care which way anyone helps or thru who. Like you said, most people are forgotten in the masses. You're right. There should NOT still be ANY blue roofs in Florida, yet it's becoming the norm anymore! Glenn
...just flew back from Tampa Sunday evening. Flew down Thursday morning-woke up to rain, lightning & thunder early in the AM at the hotel Friday then as daybreak approached was glued to the TV for a couple hours watching the coverage of the destruction.
...was a somber time in Florida for those four days thinking about those killed and those that lost homes and their possesions.
...I can't even begin to think or imagine what it'd be like to go through something like that. Those people that say "I know how you feel" are full of .
...saw a clip on TV last night where I thought a FEMA Rep said those people will have "checks in their hands" in just a "few" days(yeah, right)...let's hope so.
...my prayers and heart goes out for those people.
Glad your ok up there Glen. I have a lot of friends up there and everyone is ok, but they all know people that aren't. Seems like the fun just keeps on coming down here.

Yeah, Brangelina and Madonna can go to Africa with a few million dollars and George Clueless can rant about lots of things, but when it gets down to it, these people could drop a $1 million on disasters like this and never miss it, yet it would do a world of good for those who have been wiped out.
It is like Tom Hanks and his begging for money for the WWII memorial. Get real, Tom, one paycheck from you would cover the whole memorial and everything else, yet you have to beg us for money?
I have gotten to where I don't see any movies by any of these people anymore.

I don't know how you missed it, it was on CNN constantly. The Weather Channel kept going to it and I think MS NBC had a bunch.
It is an unusual occurrence for Florida. Tornadoes that big never hit here. They usually are so small they can pass through your backyard and not hit your house.
This really took everyone by surprise and was bigger than anyone expected.
Sorry, three stations I don't watch that often. I guess with Satellite radio and limited TV, keep up with regional news. I ended up seeing a link on Yahoo the day after.
Glen, Over here there was no coverage of the storm but here a bus crashes once a month 30 people die and there may be a small note on Page 20 of the news paper.
With this global warming it might be a good idea to move to the mountains of Tennessee so in a few years you will have beach front property.
