Default Car Transporter Trailers

I am thinking about , at some point , getting a trailor to transport my Vette. My thinking is that when I take her home I will have to get it to the port and get it from the port in the UK back to my house. Then I will need to get it to a Registration center to get all of the checks done to have it road legal over there and I figure it would be cheaper to buy a trailor over here than to pay for someone to transport it for me. It would be a handy thing to have at home too
So give me some ideas of where to go shopping for trailors. I am not looking for anything too flash , just safe and practicle.

Thanks

Not sure if you want a open or enclosed trailer but right in Indiana is where a great number of the car trailers are manufactured. I bought a 24 foot enclosed trailer with a 48" side door, torque flex axles, hold down hooks and gravel guard for $4930.00 in 2005 right up northeast of you in Elkart at a plant on highway 15 between Bristol and Goshen. They make a lot of open trailers in that area also. The company was Forest River. Do not have the paperwork here or I could give you more info. A lot of these "car-trader" paperback magazines that you can pick up at convienence stores have ads the back. I actually bought the trailer from Johns Trailer Sales in Toledo and paid for and picked up the trailer at the factory. Hope this helps!

I was looking for an open trailer - not sure I can justify the $ for an enclosed one. I will google Forest River and see what I get

I remember now, mine is the "Haulin" brand by Forest River. Like I said, I bought mine from John's But I would guess there are other dealers closer to you. You should be able to get a good price being so close to the manufacturers.

Thanks again , I found the Forrest river web site but no prices so the link you gave me gives an idea of price.

Anyone else out there use an open trailer?

Enclosed is the only way to go for me. Kepps all the elements off the car and is a way more secure mode of transporting anything you care about, and another plus is no one will know what you're actually hauling.

I bought an open trailer and hauled my vette from So Cal to Ohio last year. Did fine, but enclosed is a much better way to go, provided you have the money.

Cheers,

Crunch

And there is the problem , I drive my vette , I don't do shows etc and so this trailor is going to get limited use , I have to transport the vette a couple of times when I take it home in order to get it legal - I agree an enclosed trailer is the best solution but I can't justify 5K+ for the amount of use I will give it - I am looking to spend ender $1500 if possible - maybe a used one would be an option???
