just got an air compressor with tools at home depot. now need a tool chest to keep the tools in to keep them clean and free of dust.
Need recommendations (pics???) for one big enough (4 or 5 drawer) to keep impact wrench, air ratchet, grinder, air hammer, etc. in as well as circular saw elec. drill, etc.
For the money, I really like Craftsman tool chests, especially the ones with the ball bearings in the drawer tracks. Lets them slide smooth even when full of heavy tools. Check their website out, they have a ton of different options, sizes, and even several colors.
Like most things in life, bigger is better. Buy the largest size you can afford and fit. More tools will follow, so make plans now.
Craftsman makes a couple different "grades" of tool chests. Like Jason says, try to get the ball bearing drawers. If money is tight, just buy the roll-around cabinet first. Don't get one with a fold up door on the bottom, it's hard to get into and just gathers junk. Make sure to get a bottom drawer instead.
If you can afford it, Sam's has a decent stainless steel cabinet/chest combo for ~ $600-$700.
You might also check for used ones, or if you see a Snap-On man he may have some trade ins.
thanks. i like craftsman too. i have one with the "skinny" drawers for my wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, etc. Need one now with "taller" drawers for the big stuff.
ball bearing drawers are great, i agree. but soooo pricey. a few of them could cost more than my C3. been looking for some "scratch" sales at Sears but haven't seen any yet. will keep looking.
Get this setup - over 1000 tools and it's a BARGAIN at only $32,315.10
I have a 4 drawer Snapon chest. The top and top 3 drawers for hand tools and a deep bottom drawer. It has bearings on the drawer runners and is quite nice!
Watch for the sales at Sears. Occasionally, you will get a great deal.
Most say to go with the ball bearing, but the Quiet Glide series is a very good box. You have to remember that for years, all Sears had were the friction slides and they were a very good box. The Quiet Glide is a lot cheaper than the ball bearing and nearly as smooth. I've heard some claim it is smoother.
As in all things with Sears, be wary of what you are buying. There are 100 different models and you can sometimes pay an extra $10 and get twice the box.
