I have and you will lose some sanity. But I went a step further on my firewall. I wanted it to look like it's one piece so I filled all the gaps, sanded everything, and then laid down 3 coats of primer followed by 3 coats of Duplicolor high heat gloss black. I dry sanded every coat but the last. Had to pull everything but the P/B off the firewall to do it. Took about 6 months of spare time! I just put pics last night on the last page of the C-3 pics thread. Lots of work but damn it looks nice! And incase your wondering.........The motor stayed in during this.
