He got me on the 82. Only rust the car has is the right front body mount area. Theres a metal channel under the door that runs from rear of door to the front under the right front fender. Left side has one also. Its some kind of sill/body channel. i think it butts up to the bird cage area.
Its gonna need replacement or repair. Anyone have experience with repairing/removing this channel?
looks to be riveted and bonded in. better to replace just the rusted section or best to go with whole piece.
The piece you are looking for is called the rocker channels. They are sold in three pieces per side- front extension, center and rear extension. I bought mine from caldonia (sp?), Zip's had them backordered for two weeks before I cancelled and went with caldonia. They claimed that zip buys the pieces from them. I believe both sides cost me around $400.
It is not a fun job but not that technical either, just a real nasty pain. The instructions say not to remove the old pieces, just insert the new ones. The po of my car had already removed the old rusty ones so I knew what I was getting into and I knew the frame was perfect cause he removed the body. Knowing you, you will want to get the nasty stuff out too which works just fine. It just took me a little longer to make sure I had everything where I needed it before I tack welded it in place. I believe the old ones serve as a guide for the new. There is also a member here with a website that shows some pics of his job. Good luck.
thanks!.....I looked at the zip website and the front piece they had listed doesnt look like what im wanting..maybe it is though. they look as if they are bonded into the body also
I don't know if they have a website. Here is a number I found from another thread. Gary at Caledonia Corvette
800 245-5224 Gary is who I spoke to, he will know exactly what you need.
I see you have the body off. That will really make this easier.
