Default Hardtop Question

Recently bought remoable hardtop for my 68. Have not had the opportunity to put it on the car as they are at seperate locations, but I have a question about how it will attach. The convertible top has pins which would lock it in place in the rear, the hardtop has much longer bolts which I can't imagine would lock the same way. Also the hardtop has side mounting brackets, but I am not aware of any corresponding spot on my car where they would attach. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

The hardtop had been on my '68 for 10 years before I took it off.

Came off the same way the 'vert does, but it was a bit more of a struggle. Was it age or design differences? That I don't know. But it came off fairly simply.

Now, side brackets...what do you mean by that? The attachment points I have are identical to the 'vert top.

Its pretty hard to work in the close space if you have the soft top folded down there, but I managed to use a fender washer and a nut to fasten down the rears and on the sides you need to mark and drill a hole on each side and put a ferrule kinda deal that has threads and use the corresponding bolt size to fasten the sides to the deck lid. Lots of guys dont even bother with the side ones, but I liked the idea of it being bolted down like it was meant to be,,, some hardtops from the factory, dont know exactly what years also had an additional hold down in the rear, more towards the center. I hope this helps. Peace,,,,Moosie

Put one of those protection strips on or you will have an identation in the rear decklid.

Hardtop sits on decklid; pins in hardtop pass through the rear bow latches (literally). Side mounts bolt up. The AIM has a picture of the installation.

There are four attachment points in the rear. Obviously, the front on the windshield molding uses the three lockdowns that the soft-top uses. The rear uses the same two holes as the convertible top but tighten down with a nut. Then there are two side bolts that hold it to the deck lid and the side of the hardtop. Try some of the vendor sites for pictures of "hardtop hardware" and you'll see what I mean. If mine wasn't in storage, I'd take some pictures for you.

Good luck- hardtops look sharp!

The studs on the rear of your HT push through the same holes that the softtop pins go through. Once through a large washer and retaining nut are used to tighten the HT to the rear deck.
This thread should provide you more info on how to reach the studs with the soft top still in the car.
