Hi guys. Thought I'd share some pics of my restoration project. My "before" pics are on a different computer, so I'll pop them up another time.
Rather than spend a bunch of money on a repro bezel with CD hole, I bought a beat up used one on ebay for $9 and cut my own hole. Then painted it and the console bezel.
I'm doing B-Quiet on the floor and doors, along with Reflectix, and of course new carpet and compartment doors. My steering wheel is being reconditioned at Al Knoch, and I"m planning to dye a few interior pieces that have faded badly.
Yes, I know that bezel is not correct for a 78, but it was $9 and the clock does not work anyway. If I ever want to go back to my original I have it and the radio all boxed up for storage. That Pioneer I put in there is no prize, but it was free, so I'm good with it for now.
Thanks! I used that anodized black paint and some metallic stuff for the lining, then shot the whole thing with some clear ....the silver is not as shiny as i'd like it to be though...Has anyone tried using chrome leaf? Wondering if that might look closer to factory...Also, I used 1/4 inch Graphic Arts tape to mask the silver off.
I've now got all carpet out and am putting the B-Quiet down. Big snow storm here, perfect time to have a Corvette in pieces! Thank goodness for my heated garage!

You running stereo wiring since the carpet is all out? Great time for running wires.
Yeah, I'm going to run wires for rear speakers, and the CD changer. I also plan on cleaning up the wire rat nest in the console. The orange wire to the antenna relay has about five differnent splice points in it,. The antenna motor is cooked (haven't pulled it to confirm yet, but that's the general assumption) so I"m going to cut out the mangled part of that wire and solder in a clean run.
Every single bulb in the dash was blown. That "constant hot" orange antenna wire was in there with exposed copper flopping around, and I suspect it shorted out the whole dash. Got new bulbs in, and ordered a full fuse packet as well. Courtesy light timer is also bad, so I did the white to white bypass on that too.
This car had an old car alarm in it too, dated june 1978 (the car was born june 16 1978). Taking that old thing out was a mess too. Wires in the battery box, wires under the carpet, wires in the dash, wires under the hood...Wire soup man. Old school too with the pipe and key under the column. All that just to make a horn blow. I suspect the car was stolen at one point anyway. Evidence of a hotwire job/replaced steering column casing and tons of broken glass under the passenger seat. So much for alarms. Nobody out there is missing a 78 Silver Anniversary with Saffron cloth are they? Hope not!
