FWIW: Bodies were painted at St. Louis with the doors and front clip in place. Most folks don't remove the clip for paint. Leave the doors on -- no sense doing work you don't have to do.
Not sure what you meaning by removing the steering rack for paint. You will have to disconnect the steering shaft from the box in order to lift the body off the frame.
Well I am looking to take them off to make it lighter, and I want the door jams to be painted well. I am also going to have to get the rust in the bird cage fixed.
The steering rack is not for paint, but for lifting the body and getting things out of my way. I know the power steering unit leaks so I am thinking about just getting a new one unless a shop can refab this one and clean it up at the same time. (powdercoat?)
