From Engine Factory, did you buy it turn key or just block and heads? How much did it cost you? Looks like a sharp set-up!

I bought turn key. It was 6000.00 shipped to my door. I'm installing it as we speak and will post pics when I'm done.

Nothing wrong with the ZZ383 engine or the Engine Factory one. I've also heard good things about T&L Engines. Don't buy some no name POS off of ebay just to save a few bucks. Quality costs money, sure there are ways to save a buck, but I'd always spend $500 extra to go with a known company.

most 383,s are 3.750 stroke , the zz 383 from GM are 3.800 so there must be a difference in power and torque delivery from the smaller bore and longer stroke . what do you think ?

They only changed the stroke so that they didn't have to bore the blocks. GM builds a 425HP version & Gilbert (Sallee) offers a 500HP version of the same. Nothing at all wrong with the ZZ383.

I have the 383 from GM in my Street Rod and I love it. I bought the short block and had Cam Motion build me a roller for it. I put Dart Pro 1 aluminium heads on mine. I found out with the Dart heads, the distance from where the Alt. & A/C mount on the front of the heads and where the valve cover sits is about 3/8" taller then like your Edelbrock heads. So I was able to run 1.6 roller rockers with poli-locks under the short valve covers. I used my own Edelbrock intake and carb. MSD HEI and wires. I bought the short block for $3,000.00 and by the time I got done with everything else I had around $7,000.00 in it. It would have been cheaper to have gone with the 425 HP crate and just drop it in. I think the only differance was the 425 had cast iron heads and different pistions. But I love it. Wish I had one in the '71. I'm having trouble getting the rod to hook up now off the line.

I can't believe they send that engine with such a cheesy fuel line and 289 ford air cleaner...LOL

Rest of it looks nice though.

Those were the stands it was shipped with. I'm having it installed, as I have not had any time to work on the car for awhile, and I could'nt stand to see that nice engine just sit in my garage.

The fuel lines are not meant to be permanent. They will be changed to some nice stainless ones! I thought the aircleaner looked fine, do you have some other recommendations?

Here are some 'after' pics.
I'm still working on the throttle cable transmission cable and cruise control cables. The engine bay is starting to look better!

I'm also changing the fuel lines to stainless steel.

I had to make a few modifications to the hood

Canadian73, check out these two links. Ratflinger mentioned above about T and L Engines. I'm halfway towards a 383 from them. First here's their link:

www.tandlengines.com

And here's a link to a thread with a discussion about them. They've got me sold. It looks like you can get ZZ383 performance for a HT383 price through them. The only difference is the block isn't new as it would be from GM. They do have a 1 year 12K mile warranty though. Check it out.
