Well, I'm new to this, and trying my first post. I guess first I give my story......Last week I purchase my favorite sports car. A 1979 Corvette Stingray L82 t-top for $4,000. The guy traded it in to my customer, a car dealer (I'm a banker), and the owner must not have known squat about GM engines. He just dropped a new 350 four bolt main, Edelbrock Performer RPM serious intake, Heddman Headers, and a brand new Edelbrock 1405 Carb. He traded it in to my customer for an toyota mini-truck. Anyways, my customer had been looking for 2 yrs for me and gave me a call. I took it home that day and it was running horrible. All I did was pull the plug out of the #1 cylinder, had my buddy crank until it blew my finger out, pulled the distributor and put it back in, gave it a tweak with my timing gun, adjusted the carb (running too rich) and took it around the block smoking the tires. Anyways, I'm restoring the interior now and I had one very simple and stupid question. I was wondering if someone had interior pics they could send me front and rear interior. I've already fixed the center gauge cluster, tachometer, and and all the bulbs the guy burned up putting in a stereo. Also, he didn't know how to fix the headlights so he locked them in the up position. Had all these things fixed the first two days. It's like having a new born child......that runs really fast
I'm replacing parts that were missing and some that were....well....nasty. For the most part....I've already replaced all the paneling, lens, bulbs, carpet, steering wheel, etc..... I figured for $4,000 purchase price and $2,000 invested, it will not be a bad deal to have a 79 t-top vette for under $10,000 reconditioned. The engine runs like a cat on fire!!! After I do more mods to it and revamp the transmission....it'll be one nice car!
Welcome to the Corvette headache and frustration club.
You may soon be overcome with the "whileI'matit's" as well as the "whydidn'tIseethatbefore's". These conditions can get rather expensive, often escallating to over $1000 per occurance.
Despite these symptoms, more crazies keep joining this club!
However, relief is often prescibed as the following
Take the Vette out for a cruise
Put on a freash coat of wax
Bring your spouse/companion with you
Keep driving as all others stare in envey
All or some of the above
It is a very elite club, so remember...it is a Corvette!
Congrats and welcome to the forum. It is an awesome feeling taking delivery of that first corvette.....even when there is always something that needs to be done. Gives you something to do with all your free time!
Sounds like you got a great deal on a nice car! I'm really impressed about a banker that doesn't mind getting his hands dirty and knows how to set timing and adjust a carb
Guys here are great about answering questions, especially stupid ones from me.
I just got home from work and started working on the car. Got my new rebuild kit for the tachometer thinking I'd save a few bucks from buying the whole darn thing! (you know us bankers...put a coal up us and we'll spit you out a diamond) Anyhow...I broke the tachometer needle!!!!!!! Probably needed changing anyways.....but I guess I'll just settle on buying an after market now. Thanks for the comment about getting my hands dirty for a banker....probably doesn't go well together in the same sentence....dirty banker ha ha ha
