After extensive phone calling over here in Luxembourg ( Europe ), I found some white letter tires in the sizes, I was looking for.
Well, this are COOPER Cobra GT tires.
275/60-15 for the back and 235/70-15 for the front of my 68 BB on the 8 " real wire spoke rims. ( both tire sizes have the same overall diameter )
What do you guys think about this American made tire, T rated ?

The Firehawk Indy 500 and BF Goodrich T/A, S rated , are not available over here.

Is there any negative thoughts about this COOPER tires ? I never had any B4.

I have them on my car, they were on it when I bought it. I have no complaints, but I only drive the car on nice days, so I can't comment on bad weather handling. Also, since I drive the car infrequently, I don't know about how they wear.

I have truck Coopers on my Jeep Cherokee. Nice tires. Good all-weather traction.

The 275 is too big for the 8 inch rim. It will wear out in the center unless you run it aobut 25 psi, and you don't really want to do that.

Stick with a 255/60-15 on rear, and even then, be sure to check that the tire does not hit the emergency brake cable bracket.

i've always had (before the dot hoosiers) the cooper 275/60 rear and 255/60 front on 15x8 rims and no probs whatsoever, honest tires, they have an average good cruising speed and they last forever, i've also raced on a hillclimb track last year (drifting all the way up though )!!! in 15 diameter there isnt plenty of better alternatives anyway...

I've raced them on an asphalt stock car for a couple of seasons.Very durable and reliable,we used to shave almost all the tread off and run them past the threads,and they still held up,they usually only failed if you hit another car or the wall!The hard compound is not the stickiest,but that makes them last a lot longer.

Gunther, Cooper is a very, very large tire company. They make a quality tire you can rely on. The only difference between Cooper and the big names is that...a big name.

That being said, I had a set on a Z-28 a bunch of years back. They worked well.

I have them on my car. Had tread separation problems with two of them, so called cooper and they replaced all four on the car for 90 dollars. They also told me to run them with 35 psi on hot days. So as a tire and a tire company I'm okay with them. I was not the original owner of the tires so I feel like they have good will toward customers.

That's exactly the pressure ( 2,5 Bar ), I run all my tires at.

The 275 is too big for the 8 inch rim.

The charts say, can be used on 7,5 - 9something rims.

I had a 255 on the back for trial and with some adding left and right, I calculated that the 275 should well fit into the aft 68 well. Hope I am right, otherwise I have some tires for sale.
The parking brake bracket is easy to moove, not my concern. I am more concerned about the fender.

Thanks for all positive replies. Makes me feel better now having ordered this COOPER . Funny enough, COOPER is hardly mentioned when tire threads appear. Always BF T/A , Firehawk 500 . Not even the Goodyear GT 2 is mentioned too often. This why I was wondering about it.

Anyway, if the 275 doesn't fit into the back, I also need others in the front. Next option would be 255/60-15 back with 235/60-15 front.

I have 255/70/15s on my Suburban. They are OK. I have had several sets and had belt separation problems on almost all of them. They are pretty cheap though.

I just picked them up. Damn, this are some big tires.
The 275 thread width is by far not 275 ( metric ) mm as it appeares to be regarding the measurement tables, but has only 210 mm touching the street and 250 mm including the thread pattern going town the sides.

Will have to pull out the Vette from it's hybernation hole in order to get to the wheels. Hope to get the new tires mounted soon and also hope this fenders clear in the back.

I feel a bit sorry that the Cobra emblem is only on the black side of the tires and not on the white letter side. It is a nice emblem, but will only be visible by crowling under the car.

Love My 72 and 77

A 275/60/15 is actually 28 inches tall and in my opinion too tall for a Corvette the tread width is 275 mm and not too wide for an 8" wheel at all. I would suggest spending the money to get a little better brand tire.
I love the look of a large 50 series tire 265 50 15 Dunlop still makes that size.

You also might think about using the same size on front and rear for rotation purposes.

BF GOODRICH 255 60 15's are $79 bucks each on tire rack I just might buy some for myself!

I've had BFG 275-60-15 on my stock 8" rims and they fit the rim fine - I installed a 1" spacer to move the wheel outwards and away from the spring end. Make sure you have plenty of clearance, that huge tire sidewall flexes a lot.

The 235-70 tire is too tall for the front IMO, it probably hits the frame at full steering lock. A 225-70 or a 245-60 would be a better choice

I am presently running the 235/70 all around and funny enough, they fir well in the front of my 68. Only problem is that they touch the HOOKER side exhaust front header tube only on the driver side and only, when the car lift off. This is only visible on the exhaust tube due kind of polishing marks. The tire does not show any marks, so must be very minor.

I went for the 275/60 & 235/70 , because both tires have the exact same overall diameter, 28 ".

A 255/60 does not fir the front of my 68 , nor did it fir the front of the other 68, I recently sold. Hits the frame and also the firewall. My car has no PS, so 255 is realy too hard to steer.

I will post about the fit of this tires. 28" tires realy fill the fenders very well. The 235/60 tire is only 26 " , may be a touch too small.

This pic is of the 235/70-15 . See how nice it fills the fender with equal gap all around. The 275/60-15 has the same diameter.

Some of you are getting confused on how to measure/size a tire...

275/60-15

275: width at the widest part of the tire (the sidewall buldge)

60: height of sidewall as a percentage width. (sidewall height is 60% of 275mm or 165mm)

15: Ummm...diameter

The width (275) is measured on specific rim width. If you install the tire on a rim wider or narrower than what the company measured them on your tire may not physicaly measure 275.

Checking the cooper website they measure 271 mm wide on an 8" rim with a tread width of 8.9".

I've had Cooper Cobra Radial /GTs M&S (255/70 15)on my '80 since I ran through a set of Eagle GT's in an unacceptably short time. I like the large raised white lettering, and would have liked the snake logo on that side too.

They wear and drive well. I got caught in a quick snow on my way home from work one day. I thought I was going to have trouble, but I was very pleasantly suprised and had zero problems.

I keep both front and rear at 32psi.

I first got Coopers to replace the Pirelli's on a '83 Beamer I had. I got overt 60 K on those before the wear warranted changing. I think you will get a lot of value from them.

I had a set of cooper cobra's on my 280Z car and loved them. Great handeling and lasted like iron. Put them on the vette and post a pic of it.
I would also stay w/the 255/60 on the rear and 245/60 on the front.
