Newly Rebuilt Engine Smoking?
Haven't been on the forum in a while and now need some help/input on a problem that I am having. Had my engine rebuilt approximately 2000 miles ago or back around 5 years ago. During break-in it ran fine and I had no issues although it did seem to be using more oil than normal. The car sat for almost a year ( divorce ) and shortly after it started smoking out of the right tail pipe. I called the shop that rebuilt the engine and the owner recommended changing the oil. After that I took it out for a long ride and the smoking eventually stopped. The next summer the smoking started again ( worse ) and the owner of the shop had sold the business and relocated to another state. A couple of the guys from that shop started another shop near by and I took the car to them. They fixed some unrelated problems and changed the oil. They told me that when the engine was rebuilt the machine shop overbored the block and the pistons were undersized as they were for a 30 over bore. I have no way to verify this and need to know what to do next. The smoking and oil usage is pretty bad now and I don't even enjoy driving the car due to this. The performance seems to be fine, but I've got to get rid of this smoking even if the engine has to be pulled and redone. It's just very frustrating because I spent so much on it the first time around. Any input is appreciated>
Do you think your rings ever really seated?
Pull some plugs are they fouled out?
Did the guys at the shop take anything apart?
What is their answer based on?
If one of the guys there helped build it did they do a half@ssed job and remember the job.??
You could pull a head and mike your piston and bore...that would tell you if you are running a smaller than needed piston.
But what kind of sorry shop would have done that?
