Got some new chrome valve covers and am going to use those spreader things under the bolts to spread the pressure. Thing is, the spreaders have a small tang on the end at 90*. Does the tang go down or up?
I have seen them installed both ways, just because people don't quite understand how to do it. The whole point is to spread the load out past the bolt. The tangs act as a force of pressure and the spreader acts as a bow loading that pressure into those tangs. From what I understand...tangs down.

Thanks, that is what I thought.
See this is in General forum now. Confusing. Would have thought this was a technical issue, as opposed to interior, body, muffler sounds, etc. etc.
As long as I got the answer, no difference, I guess.
I bought some of those fancy posts to hold down the covers. Someone at work told me they will vibrate loose. So, what if I use some of those star type locking washers. Shouldn't that keep the posts from coming loose?

Driver side went on without much todo. Used toothlock washers, with teeth on inside. Worked like a charm.
Passenger side another thing. Remove all the emissions stuff, egr, controls, etc. etc., hoses. Even the a/c brace bracket. Even then, getting cover off is a chore. Kept being blocked by the check valve on the AIR tubes. Just not much room. Then, put it all back together. No parts left over, however!
Good news! Post up a picture of the before and after look.
When I wa removing the valve covers on Terry's car, I had to break the air line connection to the passenger side exhaust manifold. The rust was so bad, that the PB Blaster couldn't break it loose. The threads disintegrated when I unscrewed it. He went with chrome VC's.
Mine has been swapped to chrome, and the previous owner said he threw away the old ones
Terry is giving me his old ones, and I will be polishing them and replacing the crossed flags decal.
